Subperiosteal Hemorrhage

MS is a 21-year-old pregnant woman of 34 weeks gestation who noted the sudden onset of severe pain behind her left eye. Examination revealed mild proptosis and upper lid edema. Radiological studies were felt inadvisable because of her pregnancy. Echography demonstrated echolucency of subtenon’s space on B-scan and low reflectivity on A-scan (Fig. 148). The diagnosis of subperiosteal hemorrhage was made and she was treated conservatively with Tylenol and cold compresses with gradual resorption of the blood.
