A 52-year-old Ethiopian woman gave a vague history of some sort of injury to her left eye several years ago. She had intermittent episodes of pain in this eye and the vision had gradually dropped to light perception. Examination found vision in the right eye of 20/30 and in the left of bare light perception. Her intraocular pressure was difficult to measure in the left eye because of corneal edema and scarring.
