Shallow Retinal Detachment

SL is a 43-year-old woman who described seeing an arclike reflection to one side of her left eye. She had a long history of migraine headaches and had often seen scintillating scotomas as part of her visual auras. Her primary care physician increased her migraine medications and told her to see her eye doctor if the symptoms worsened. She noticed the symptom off and on over the next several weeks but learned to ignore it and did not seek medical care because of an extremely busy time at work. She finally called an optometrist when she noticed a smoothly curving surface that was constantly in her temporal field of vision.
