This chapter explores the fundamental concepts of multi-carrier modulation. Multi-carrier modulation is important to know about today because it is used extensively in broadband digital wireline systems and in many broadband wireless systems. The systems are very complex and this chapter will only look at the fundamental concepts used for modulation and demodulation by implementing a simplified ADSL transmitter and receiver. The systems also include sophisticated error correcting codes, interleavers, and network protocols.
