This chapter summarises the process through which the European Union (EU) Commission, within the current programme of Community action in the field of public health, adopted by the EU Parliament and the Council, initiates and supports activities surrounding the collection and organisation of information on health within the EU, and the dissemination of the information to a large number of stakeholders.
Throughout this process, which has developed during the last 12–15 years, i.e., since the European Community (EC) was first given the mandate to act in the field of public health, a series of developmental projects have been financially supported. Most of these projects are presented in this book, and also briefly listed in this chapter, and one project is commented on further.
