Manufacturing Processes

As the sales of new guitars in the US approaches 1 million units per year, manufacturing processes are clearly an important part of the engineering aspects of guitars. The best modern guitar factories are like the best factories in any other industry. They use computer-controlled equipment to perform many of the most precise tasks, greatly reducing the need for workers to be master craftsmen.

The differences in manufacturing processes used by small or individual builders and those producing on a factory scale are large enough to warrant separate sections here. However, advancing production technology has increasingly allowed small builders ready access to the same types of processes used in large factories; differences in the scale of production are not necessarily correlated with differences in production processes.
