It is important to retain a record of the details of any image that you take. Maybe an alien signal will arrive from a particular source and any historic image will be much prized! Yes, dream on! In reality, back images are often needed and will sometimes give a portrayal of events prior to discovery. This happens from time-to-time with supernovae.
