In 1998, Joyce Epstein and I co-edited a special edition of Childhood Education, entitled “International Perspectives of School, Family, and Community Partnerships” (Sanders & Epstein, 1998). The research articles included in the edition represented 11 nations and demonstrated the importance of partnerships in educational reform and excellence. In addition, these articles highlighted how essential the teacher—parent relationship is for positive and productive home—school connections, and how critical teachers are in establishing and maintaining this relationship.
