Beside van der Waals and electrostatic forces, surface tension effects are often cited in the microassembly literature as being of utmost importance. The most frequently cited effects are the influence on sticking during the release task [58], the negative effect on the reliability of microswitches that can collapse by capillary forces [126], and the positive effect of surface tension when chosen as gripping principle [70, 100].
