This chapter describes the characterization of the required parameters to be used in the force model of Chap. 10. It focuses on the available grippers, the different components, the kinds of liquids used in the micromanipulation and their properties (surface tension, viscosity, and density). The liquid dispensing method is also addressed and, finally, the measurement of the contact angles and the contact angle hysteresis are described. Based on a Anova analysis, the importance of the coating on the repeatability of the contact angles is shown (the influence is here clearly negative to an unadapted choice of the coating).
