Voices of Employers: Overlapping and Disparate Views

Abstract

Management of emerging and young adults has become “one of the hottest topics in management training” (Trunk, 2006, ¶ 1). Emerging and young adults bring different mindsets to the workforce that may baffle their older employers. Although employers and emerging and young adults tend to agree that the work terrain has changed, assessments regarding how to best navigate the changing terrain may diverge. In an environment where the rules are in flux with no absolutes, difference in points of view may bring new tensions to the workplace as well as possibilities for misunderstanding and resentment. In response, “...[B]aby boomers are sitting in seminars for hours trying to demystify the alien ways of the new workforce” (Trunk, 2006, ¶ 1).
