Part of the Advances in Database Systems book series (ADBS, volume 36)

The amount of literature on various aspects of stream data processing and complex event processing is overwhelming. We have tried to review as much literature as possible, and specifically those that are relevant to the thrust areas of this book. This chapter starts with a brief review of stream data processing research and continues, in more detail, with related work in the areas of continuous query modeling, scheduling strategies for continuous queries, load shedding, and complex event processing. In addition to the review, we also indicate how our work differs from similar work in the literature. We also list currently available prototypes and systems aimed at stream as well as complex event processing.
