Abstract
The importance of innovation and innovation-related research to my great pleasure has strongly increased in the sports engineering community during the last decade. Whereas just a couple of conferences ago I was feeling like a lone voice crying (the innovation doodle) in the wilderness, delightedly teaming up with those very few reporting on systematically designed pieces of sports equipment, by this year we had to split the topic area: You will not only find a number of contributions on various perspectives on innovation in the following, but also a good, share of innovative design oriented contributions summarized in another synopsis by Caine, and further trans-disciplinary papers opening up new perspectives on sports engineering in yet other topic areas.
