Abstract
This paper discusses the issues in modeling product life-cycle knowledge and data for an intelligent concurrent design system. Requirements for intelligent concurrent design are first outlined. Mathematical formulation for intelligent concurrent design is then introduced. Development and implementation of an intelligent concurrent design system and its applications are subsequently presented based upon the theoretical research results. A case study example is given at last to demonstrate the effectiveness of the introduced methods. This research focuses on the following four issues: (1) representation of various product life-cycle aspects, (2) automated generation of product life-cycle aspects, (3) maintenance of relations among product life-cycle aspects, and (4) identification of the optimal design considering relevant product life-cycle aspects.
