Abstract
This paper advocates the use of digital watermarking as a part of a scheme to provide security to 3D geometric CAD (GCAD) systems. This paper discusses requirements for and opportunities available to watermark 3D GCAD models in general. The paper then presents approaches to watermark 3D GCAD models defined by using parametric curves and surfaces. In particular, a pair of watermarking algorithms targeting Non-Uniform B-Spline (NURBS) curves and surfaces, one based on reparameterization and the other based on knot insertion, are presented in detail. An important feature of both of the method is that they preserve the exact geometric shape of the target NURBS objects
