Abstract
The goal of project SAMSON is the design, development and experimental evaluation of a harmonised and flexible security management system for the efficient administration and supervision of of security services in open networks. Part of this goal is to specify and evaluate the security functions necessary for the adequate protection of management operations and information. Figure 1. gives an overview of the interrelationship between management, managed services and the security of management. Although, SAMSON activities focus on security related entities of a system it is obvious that properly designed protection of security management can easily be extended to protect all other managenet functions.
SAMSON=Security and Management Services in Open Networks is a European collaboration R&D project within the CEC Race II (1992–95) program.
