Abstract
The latest (fourth) edition of the Stanford-Binet in some ways follows in the tradition of Alfred Binet’s original work and Terman’s American revision of his scale (see Chapter 1). Some of the items found on the Binet-4 have long histories and can be traced directly to Binet’s original work. On the other hand, this newest version of the Binet departs from its predecessors to such an extent, especially in terms of its structure and theory, that it should be considered a new test, as opposed to what is typically considered a mere revision of an earlier scale. The Binet-4, however, does remain a significant achievement in intelligence test technology and, as such, it warrants serious consideration by individuals who use these measures.
