Abstract

The utility and function of waking are obvious. This is the state during which we eat, drink, procreate, create, and recreate. The survival value of these behaviors for the individual and for the species is also obvious (at least for the first three behaviors listed). In contrast, an understanding of the utility and function of sleep is not so easy.
