Abstract
Since much of the information on the brain control of sleep and waking involves a degree of familiarity with brain anatomy, a brief overview of this material is provided at the outset. The description presented here is the general plan of the vertebrate nervous system, with particular attention to parts of the brain involved in the control of sleep and waking. Those who have a background in neuroanatomy can skip this section.
