Abstract
Although four major types of carcinomas comprise the vast majority of lung tumors, an impressive list of several uncommon and unusual types of both benign and malignant tumors exists seldom encountered in the routine practice of surgical pathology and still more rarely in cytopathology. Nevertheless, they do make their appearance every now and then. In addition to these infrequently occurring neoplasms, some nonneoplastic disease processes in the lungs mimic neoplasia clinically, radiologically, grossly, and cytohistologically. These are referred to as tumorlike lesions. This chapter will describe several of the uncommon neoplasms of the lower respiratory tract and tumorlike lesions that have documented cytopathologic findings.
