Abstract

Substance abuse was once thought to be the “poor man’s disease,” but is now perceived as a potential condition of anyone regardless of their social affiliation, gender (although the focus of this book is male drug abusers or race. For decades, many viewed drug problems as characteristic of the lower strata of society and considered it far from being a middle class problem.
