Abstract
Surgery on the pituitary gland may cause problems related to surgical intervention per se, as well as changes in endocrine function during and after surgery. The pituitary gland (hypophysis) is located in the sella turcica at the base of the brain in close proximity to the sphenoid sinus, hypothalamus, optic chiasm, and vessels (internal carotid artery, cavernous sinus).
