Abstract

Our Healthier Nation (DoH, 1998) emphasised the impact that lifestyle has upon health. While acknowledging that ‘Life is by its nature risky’ (DoH, 1998, p. 34), it is agreed that people need to know about risks to health in order to make informed judgements about how to avoid or minimise those risks. Greenhalgh observes that for people with learning difficulties, ‘little or no work so far has looked at their needs for information about health issues’ (DMHS, 1995, p. 31).
