Abstract
In the British Parliament, and for elections to the national parliaments in almost all of Britain’s larger former colonies, including Canada, India, the U.S., and until recently, New Zealand, most members have been elected from single seat constituencies under plurality voting. This method is known more commonly in Great Britain as first-past-the-post voting, because the election outcome is determined solely by the order of finish in terms of total votes received.
