Abstract
The particular stresses and strains in the countertransference when working with people with eating disorders were discussed in Chapter 6. The best way in which a therapist can clarify and learn from what he or she discovers in working with people with eating disorders is first of all to undertake a training in psychotherapy alongside a personal therapy for themselves, if they have not already done so. Second, they should find a source of good psychoanalytic supervision. Short courses can also be of tremendous help in developing skills and understanding, and most importantly to share experiences and to learn from them, however experienced the practitioner may be. Attending conferences and clinical meetings are also useful, as is reading and keeping up with current clinical thinking in journals and books.
