Abstract
As a distance and open learning student you are in a good position to consolidate and broaden your skills base. You already have a set of skills, many of which you have developed over time without giving it much thought, some of which you have made a conscious decision to develop through your course. You will also have skills that could be enhanced by your course, as long as you make plans to do this in a systematic way. Developing your skills base is a little like identifying your learning objectives: it will happen to some extent as a natural result of your course, but you can improve the outcome once you have learnt to manage the process.
