Abstract
A flood of emotion had been released in Barnes, pressing him towards meriting and winning Molly’s love. But his creative energy, his achievement, even his affections, had been absorbed in his work for many years; he could not now lay these purposes aside, nor did he wish to do so. He fought for his love and for the outcome of his design. Molly had one purpose, to reconcile her father to her decision; her ambition to work in the world had faded. She knew her fate; Barnes, although he prayed, hoped and battled with uncertainty, did not know his for sure.
