Abstract

The premise of this chapter is not to engage in the basic technologies of materials or the varied types of plant available to the principal contractor, but rather it is concerned with the management process of these two valuable resources. Plant, if poorly managed on construction projects, suffers from low utilisation rates, and materials are renowned for their high wastage figures. Therefore the principal contractor needs to concentrate efforts on the removal of non-value-adding activities.
