Abstract

This chapter will explain sourcing and explain how supply chain management has emerged as a crucial function in improving the effectiveness of the suppliers used by buyers in fashion retailing. ‘Effectiveness’ in this context is judged by a number of criteria, which are discussed in detail later in the chapter, but which ultimately must result in increased overall profitability. In their efforts to improve stock usage, fashion retailers have recognised that suppliers’ performance can have a big impact on profits.
