Abstract

Throughout the European Union (EU) there is still a great way to go with legal harmonisation among member countries. The European fashion industry spans a wide variety of business activities, which come under many different legal and statutory instruments in individual countries. In the United Kingdom, for example, marketing promotional activity, including advertising, sales promotion, public relations and personal selling, are covered by no less than 150 Acts of Parliament and Statutory instruments, quite apart from case law. However, the main Acts that relate to the retailing of fashion garments in the United Kingdom include these listed in Table 5.1.
