Abstract

You may have seen an advertisement and simply want to apply; you may be trying to get promotion; you may be at college in the final year of your course and in the unenviable position of needing to write to organisations ‘cold’ (i.e. enquiring from many organisations whether they have any vacancies, rather than applying for a particular job that has been advertised); or you may be well on in your career but thinking about a new start or even a change of career. These are at least four of the possibilities which exist and which will require special treatment appropriate to the circumstances.
