Abstract

The FLSA sets the Federal minimum wages ($4.75 per hour 1996, and $5.15 per hour 1997). Exemptions include employees less than 20 years of age ($4.25 per hour during their first 90 consecutive calendar days of employment with an employer) and specifically identified groups of fulltime students, student learners, apprentices, and workers with disabilities, provided the employer is in receipt of a special certificate issued by the Department of Labor.
