Abstract
This article presents a multi-agent, Cognition Based Architecture (CBA) that takes advantage of principles of cognitive psychology, artificial neural network adaptivity, and intelligent agent principles. This architecture is aimed at allowing the dynamic creation of workgroups based on agents selected from an agent database. These agents interact in a goal-driven manner. Three types of agents are defined in the architecture: junior intelligent agents (JIA) which implement the sensorial information register and short term memory for a given task; senior intelligent agent (SIA), which encapsulates, through use of adaptive neural networks, the long term memory knowledge for a set of tasks; and facilitator agent (FA), which handles part of the work coordination and communication optimization for the group. The architecture also aims at applying, at a macro-level, the Darwinian principal of “survival of the fittest” as used in genetic algorithms, bringing the agents to a market-driven environment.
