Abstract

Constitutive equations in fluidization are derived from the variational principle. By applying the method of adiabatic eliminations an equation for void fraction is derived from a one-dimensional case. The behavior of solutions of our equation near the transition point from stable fluidized beds to unstable ones crucially depends on value of the particle viscosity; from soliton-like behavior to chaotic behavior.
