Abstract

The compact differencing method developped by Hirsh is used to solve the two dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The higher order of accuracy is investigated in the case of the test problem proposed by Pearson. Criterions for the stability of the ADI scheme are derived in terms of the physical parameters, when various types of boundary conditions are involved. Accelerating techniques are tested in order to optimize the convergence of the iterative process. Applications are made in the present paper for the driven cavity problem.
