Zusammenfassung

Periphere und zentrale Alterationen des Tryptophan- und Serotoninmetabolismus sind eng mit der physiologischen Regulierung des Schlaf-Wach-Rhythmus verknüpft. Diese mit Serotonin assoziierten Stoffwechselveränderungen können sich insbesondere im Hirnstamm als Folge körperlicher Erkrankungen manifestieren und zur Ausbildung eines chronischen Erschöpfungszustandes entscheidend beitragen. Typische Beispiele hierfür sind chronische neurodegenerative Prozesse bei Morbus Parkinson oder Morbus Alzheimer. Bei diesen ließen sich oft vor der klinisch fassbaren Manifestation mit daraus resultierender Diagnose erst temporäre, doch dann an Intensität zunehmende Symptome einer chronischen Müdigkeit oder Erschöpfbarkeit mit verminderter Belastbarkeit bei zunehmenden depressiven Störungen auch in retrograden Untersuchungen nachweisen.
