Abstract

The phase behaviour of many (apolar and aqueous) binary and ternary systems with series of polyoxyethylene perfluoroalcohols are presented. Emphasis is put on their relation to the structures of the micellar and microemulsion aggregates. The influence of the fluorocarbon tail on the hydrophily properties of the EO chain is discussed, as compared to hydrogenated compounds, whether aqueous binaryor ternary systems are concerned. In particular, the evolution of the L2 and L3 phases is studied as a function of the chemical composition of the surfactant, bringing out the enhanced stability of lamellar liquid crystals.
