Abstract

In the struggle over land between the Jewish immigrants and the natives of Palestine, symbols played an important rule. The production and reinterpretation of these symbols has been a crucial battlefield since the rise of the Zionist project in Palestine, and continues as such today. Because the subject of the struggle is the land itself, there has been no way of avoiding both parties’ use of the earth’s natural elements as ideological symbols.
