Qualitative Spatial Reasoning with Topological Information

Part of the book series: Lecture Notes in Computer Science ((LNAI,volume 2293))

Abstract

The topological relationships distinguished by the Region Connection Calculus RCC-8 are very basic. Their usefulness is shown by the independent development of these relationships by Egenhofer [44] in the area of geographic information systems and by the existing and possible applications. As we have seen in Chapter 5, these relationships are also very interesting from a cognitive point of view.
