Activation of C-H Bonds: Stoichiometric Reactions

  • Chapter
  • First Online:

Part of the book series: Topics in Organometallic Chemistry ((TOPORGAN,volume 3))

Abstract

The activation of hydrocarbon C-H bonds by way of oxidative addition and other pathways has been found to be possible with a wide variety of homogeneous transition metal complexes. Studies have provided detailed information about the intermediates involved and the mechanism(s) of activation. Thermodynamic and kinetic selectivities have been established with several reactive metal fragments. An overview of these developments is given and new examples of complexes that activate C-H bonds are also described.
