Shortcomings and extensions of relational DBMS

Abstract

This contribution explains the reasons leading to the development of object-oriented databases. In the fist part, drawbacks of the relational model will be described including the lack of modelling power and the lack of performance. In the other part, the proposed solutions and extensions of the RDBMS will be introduced.
