Abstract

The present review classifies, discusses and critically summarizes the results in the field of free radical polymerizations as well as of photocrosslinking and photografting reactions promoted by polymeric photoinitiators. Particular emphasis is given to the synthesis and structure-properties relations of the cited polymeric systems in order to optimize their molecular design for obtaining the desired performances. The advantages of polymeric photoinitiators with respect to the corresponding low-molecular-weight analogues are also examined. Attention is given to special applications from both the technological and fundamental point of view. Future developments based on the peculiarity of the polymeric systems to give synergistic effects are finally evidenced.
