Abstract

We discuss various nonlinear mode-mode coupling processes, involving the interaction of high-frequency Langmuir waves with low-frequency Alfvén waves, which may play a role in particle acceleration and radiation generation in the solar corona. Intense Langmuir waves can generate solar radio waves such as whistler waves or electromagnetic electron cyclotron waves, near the electron plasma frequency, via ponderomotive coupling with Alfven waves. These induced high-frequency cy clotron waves and low-frequency Alfvén waves may contribute toward the energization of coronal particles through waveparticle interaction processes.
