ALEXSYS — A prototype knowledge based expert system for the quality assurance of high pressure die castings

Abstract

The ALEXSYS System is aimed to be used as an industrial tool for the identification, assessment and correction of defects in the aluminium high pressure die casting industry. ALEXSYS consists of three modules: the Diagnostic Module, the Machine Parameters Module and the Design Module. The expert system is tested within a real industrial environment, where a robotic cell fully equipped with appropriate instrumentation and data acquisition system has been designed and manufactured on this purpose. A successful validation of the ALEXSYS system has been performed and this has provided insights which are encouraging for its further development.
