Abstract
This article discusses one team's experience developing six products in Ada with support for six different platforms (PCs and workstations), three operating systems (DOS, UNIX, VMS) and five commercial compilers (Alsys, Telesoft, Verdix, Digital, Meridian). The effort involved about one million lines of code. We will explain the different phases of the project and the choices that allowed us to meet these challenges. We will also elaborate on the concept of modular programming and the use of software components.
