Measurement of hot spots in the proton at HERA

Abstract

Hot spots are regions in the proton with a large density of small-x partons. In this paper we discuss the measurement of these regions by means of an associated jet analysis. After a short outline of the general idea we present an analytical estimate of the associated jet cross section and compare it with a MonteCarlo simulation. We then discuss the jet kinematics in the HERA frame and describe the results of a jet analysis on detector simulated data in order to illustrate the feasibility of this measurement at HERA.
