Abstract
The spectra of SN 1987A have been analyzed and modeled by various authors. However, in contrast to the other objects discussed in this volume there is not yet a comprehensive abundance analysis for this object. The reasons for this situation are manifold and depend on the expansion phase. We emphasize here the difficulties of spectral diagnostics during the coasting phase. Taking the resulting uncertainties into account we discuss some recent determinations of the composition.
