Abstract

The Magellanic Clouds have been covered with the X-ray astronomy satellite ROSAT (Röntgen Observatory SATellite) during the all sky survey and during pointed observations. A few hundred sources have been detected in the fields. Super-soft sources are detected as a new class of X-ray emitters, that may solve the missing millisecond pulsar progenitor problem. Transient super-soft as well as hard X-ray binary sources are discovered or rediscovered in both clouds. Extended sources are candidates for new supernova remnants and some of them already have been identified with supernova remnants. Large scale diffuse emission is clearly found in the LMC and extends beyond the supershell optical boundaries.
