Forbidden lines of [Fe II] and [N II] in P Cygni's envelope

Abstract

From high-resolution spectra of the Luminous Blue Variable P Cygni we determine electron densities in those parts of its envelope where lines of [Fe II] and [N II] are formed. The results allow us to deduce certain properties of the star's envelope and stongly suggest that the ejection of matter from P Cygni occurs in randomly directed “blobs”.
