Abstract

There is a need to understand the overall environment within which methods and tools exist. This does not simply imply a complete view of the systems development life-cycle but more importantly the organisation itself, its management structure and the changes required to absorb and successfully use the growing array of tools and approaches available. This paper seeks to look in some detail at these management issues and present a view on their importance and impact on adapting a cohesive tools strategy. It is based around the experience gained by LBMS in introducing the first practical tools and methods within the UK market, but also looks forward to the rapidly evolving integrated solutions now appearing in the commercial marketplace across Europe.
